We were moved and intrigued by the spirit and feeling from the algae covering the rocks at the bottom of the Okanagan. After investigation, we realized what we were feeling was a thing called Periphyton, a complex living community primarily composed of Algae, and a vital part of the aquatic food web. Understanding the scientific properties of this wonderfully healing organism has led us to the formula available here today. A body oil that brings together Sacha Inchi and Evening Primrose, it is a Bio-Nutrient, Botanically Enriched, Anti-Inflammatory, antioxidant, and promotes Cell Regeneration, leaving your skin smooth and nourished, as if you were bathed in the sea. The scent then comes from the same piece of nature used to build the sacred shrines of Japan, a wood known as Hinoki, a wonderfully clean and ethereal scent that will bring a ritual of peace and grounding with every touch.

Periphyton is a living complex community primarily composing of algae, it contains macro nutrients (proteins, fats, carbs) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals). The compounds in periphyton include those that have many antioxidant and antinflamatory properties, these come from its carotenoid, phenolic, and additionally its fatty acid content. This led us to use the beautiful Sacha Inchi Oil. Sacha inchi is rich in Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids just like periphyton. So rich, that 90% of its fatty acid content is Poly-Unsaturated Fats. Sacha Inchi is celebrated for its near perfect ratio of Omega 3 (alpha linolenic acid) and Omega 6 (linolenic acid), additionally it’s even a source for omega 9, all this while still being low comedogenic which makes it suitable for acne prone skin, because it is less likely to clog pores. These unique fatty acids make Sacha Inchi a great antioxidant and anti-inflammatory oil. We then combined this with Evening Primrose which contains Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA) which is a conditionally essential fatty acid, and upon its aborbption it converts to DGLA then to PGE1 which mean anti inflammatory, antioxidant, cellular function regeneration, and leads to smoother restored skin. All mixed with the beautiful woody, light and intoxicating scent of Japanese Cypress, Hinoki.
